Boulder, Colo. (August 14, 2019)—Wana Brands—the best-selling edibles brand in the U.S.—adds to its impressive list of accomplishments with COO Dan O’Connor named the winner of the COO category of Denver Business Journal’s 2019 C-Suite Award.

O’Connor oversees Wana’s two Colorado operations, supports multiple out-of-state facilities and is responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all company processes. He also assists in driving the company to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow, business goals and objectives by managing production, fulfillment, IT, supply chain, compliance and facilities. Since O’Connor joined Wana in April 2018, year-over-year revenues are up 38.3% and the company has expanded from four to seven states, with plans for international expansion on the near horizon. He also oversaw the build out of a new facility that will launch Wana Wellness, a line of hemp-derived CBD products that will hit the market in September.
“My experience at a family-run business in the heavily regulated alcohol manufacturing sector prepared me perfectly for the complex nature of cannabis business operations,” O’Connor added. “It’s particularly gratifying to see Colorado’s cannabis sector recognized on the same level as financial institutions and health care providers.”
Prior to joining Wana, O’Connor held CFO and COO roles at Oskar Blues Brewery Holding, where he helped propel the family-run brewery to national prominence and boosted it into multi-state distribution, achieving 15-fold growth in revenue during his tenure. O’Connor served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, overseeing the acquisition logistics project for the Joint Cruise Missiles Project and the Joint Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Project. He has an MBA in finance from George Washington University and a degree in engineering management from the United States Air Force Academy.
O’Connor has been responsible for major successes in Business Practices and Sustainability efforts and spearheads departmental group volunteer events with incentives for staff participation. His leadership also supports Wana’s four-pronged CSR program (Donations and Aid; Volunteering; Environmental Impact and Sustainability; Ethical & Transparent Business Practices). Through a robust CSR program at Wana, staff have devoted hundreds of hours to local community efforts in the Boulder area. Some of the recipients of Wana’s outreach work includes Attention Homes, an organization serving homeless and at-risk youth; the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence; the Sister Carmen Community Center, the Butterfly Pavilion, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, Bridgehouse, and Community Food Share.
