Nancy Whiteman is the first-ever cannabis business owner
to be recognized as a DBJ OWIB finalist
Boulder, Colo. (August 7, 2019)—Wana Brands—the largest edibles brand in the United States—continues to add to its ever-growing list of accomplishments: Founder & CEO Nancy Whiteman has been named a finalist in the Denver Business Journal’s “Outstanding Women in Business” Awards in the Large Business Leader Category.
“When I founded Wana Brands in 2010 it quickly went from an intriguing business opportunity to a passion project,” Whiteman said. “Nearly a decade later, Wana employs a staff of 89 in Boulder, Colo., and our products are available in seven states. I really want to thank my team for this acknowledgement, because they are equally passionate about making Wana Brands a great place to go to work every day.”
Whiteman has secured Wana’s position in the United States by making innovation a priority. Heralded as “The Queen of Legal Weed” by Inc. (May 2017) and “The Martha Stewart of Edibles” by Entrepreneur (Jan. 2019), she has grown Wana to the No. 1 edibles brand in sales revenues in the United States, according to BDS Analytics 2018 Brand Share Report. Whiteman directs the development of partnerships and licensing agreements domestically and internationally. She leads the company’s strategic vision and has been instrumental in Wana’s growth into new and emerging markets. Whiteman was one of six women included in High Times 100 in March 2019. In May 2019, she was listed as No. 3 in Cannabis Business Executive’s 2019 Power Women in Cannabis.
“I look forward to celebrating at the Awards Ceremony with the female business leaders of Metro Denver who embrace change, inspire others to follow and deliver results,” Whiteman continued.
The company’s explosive grown has led it to be included in the 2018 Inc. 5000 list at #1087 boasting a three-year growth rate of 455%. Today, Wana’s product portfolio provides a range of different ratios and classes that enable customers to create the specific cannabis experience they want. The company is on the forefront of the industry in quality, consistency and potency, featuring a full line of premium infused products including Wana Sour Gummies, Wana Vapes, WanaCapsXR, Wana Tarts, Wana Quick Onset Tincture and Wana Drops/Lozenges. It has expanded from its Colorado headquarters into Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, with the company onboarding in California and Florida (as regulations permit). The company also expects to enter international markets in the coming year.
In addition, Whiteman has been the guiding force in the development of Wana Brands’ Corporate Social Responsibility program, with the mission to “Enhance Your World,” built on her commitment to conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner. Through strategic investments, nonprofit partners, volunteering, and lessening environmental impact she endeavors to enhance the lives of all people. Wana Brands’ CSR program has four components to it: Donations and Aid, Volunteering, Environmental Impact and Sustainability, Ethical & Transparent Business Practices. Wana has already beaten its initial 2019 goal to spearhead 4-6 group volunteer events annually. To date, the company has hosted eight Wana group volunteer projects benefiting Sister Carmen, Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence, Butterfly Pavilion, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, Bridgehouse, and Community Food Share. Wana is on par to meet/exceed volunteer hour goals for 2019.
